Summer

En route to Refuge Alfred Wills

Walking

Walks in the valley and the surrounding mountains range from relatively easy 4 - 5 km strolls for all the family to multi-day, high-level walks staying in refuges. Several of the refuges are easily accessible for children four years old and above and make a great adventure for an overnight stay. There are guide books and maps in the chalet and the local tourist information website has a map showing locations of the refuges. We're also very happy to help with recommendations.

Mountain biking

The local trails were used for the 2015 World Enduro Mountain Biking and there are lots of red / black routes up in the hills. However, it's not all full-on; there's a lovely leisurely ride along the River Giffre in both directions from the chalet with lots of beer, cake and coffee options in Samoëns and Taninges.

The lifts from Morillon are open every day in summer giving access to the top of Morillon, Les Carroz and Samoëns. Routes vary greatly in length and difficulty with full details and maps of all routes given on the Vallée du Haut-Giffre website. The Chalet is also only a 20min drive from Les Gets giving easy access to the Portes du Soleil.

Road cycling

The two biggest climbs nearest the Chalet, the Col de Joux Plane and Col de la Ramaz, formed the climax to the final mountain stage in the 2016 Tour de France. There are also gentler options in and around the valley; the ride up to the Cirque du fer à cheval beyond Sixt is very popular and it's downhill all the way back! The Chalet has secure storage for bikes, an outside hose and a track pump.

Treetop adventures

Les Aventuriers du Lac is adjacent to Lac Bleu and consists of a series of adventure courses in the trees. There are three courses suitable for ages three and above with obstacle courses, cargo nets, rope swings, bridges and zip wires etc. The harnesses for children are attached at all times making it very safe. On the advanced course there are easier options at key points.

Lac Bleu

Lac Bleu is less than five minutes walk from the chalet. It's fed from an underground lake and makes for a refreshing swim with lifeguards on duty every day in the summer holidays and a 'wibit' inflatable assault course. There is a small beach with a segregated shallow area for young children with picnic tables, benches and lots of space on the grass or under the trees to stretch out and relax.

Adjacent to the lake are a pump track, beach volleyball, trampolines, horse riding, play area with swings etc, a giant air bag and zip wire activities as well as a bar / restaurant, train ride and fantastic ice cream.

Across the river, there is a crazy golf course and another large childrens' play area with giant inflatables, and obstacle courses.

Climbing

Ten minutes drive from the Chalet at Sixt is a large rock face with bolted routes for climbing for all abilities. There is also a challenging Via Ferrata at Sixt.

Other activities

There is so much going on in the area that it can be difficult to choose. Activities on offer range from gentle pursuits such as walking with a donkey, horse drawn carriage rides, crazy golf, pony trekking or swimming to full on adventures like parapenting, caving, canyoning, white water rafting, and mountaineering.
